General tips
for babysitting:
-
Don't be afraid to ask the parents anything. Even if this means
calling or texting them. It is important to make sure with the parents first-better safe than sorry!
-
Go the extra mile. Bring an activity over to entertain the children.
Try not to use your cell phone while babysitting. Not doing anything? Do the dishes or help with folding laundry. Anything
extra you do will be noticed and you will get it back plus more.
-
Be as honest as possible with the kids-no making promises. 9 times
out of 10 they will hold you to whatever you say-even if it's not okay with their parents.
-
Use positive reinforcement.
-
Try to make doing chores and mandatory activities fun. Better
yet, do their chores with them to encourage them.
-
Use your judgement. If the parents are not reachable or the issue
at hand isn't a 'major' one you decide. That is part of the responsibility requirements that come with being a good babysitter.
