Homemade Piggy Banks

For this project you will need:
  • milk carton
  • 4 wine corks
  • pink pipecleaner
  • cardboard scrap peices
  • construction paper
  • "googly eyes" (optional)
  • glue
  • scissors
  • news paper
  • markers
  • paint
  • paint brushes
  • crazy glue (adult supervision)

Steps:

Part One:
1. For Parent: Using right hand grab handle of milk carton and place onto table so that you are still comfortably holding the carton (see picture for example).
2. Keeping the milk carton in the same position, cut a slit about 2 cm thick and and inch long into the top of the milk carton.

Part Two:
3. (Optional) Paint milk container, wine corks, and cap of milk container.
4. Allow time to dry.

Part Three:
5. While drying, curl pipecleaner into 'curly pig tail'.
6. With cardboard and marker draw pig shaped ears, allowing an extra inch to bottom of ear to create a flap to glue to milk container.
7. After cutting out ear, paint the ear, leaving the 'flap portion' unpainted.

Part Four:
8. Once dry, recap cap onto lid of milk carton (pig nose).
9. Have an adult poke a small hole in back of milk carton and push the pipecleaner through, creating a tail.
10. Fold over 'flap portion' and glue the 'flap portion' onto the top of the carton and hold down for 30 seconds. Allow a few minutes to dry.
11. Once dry, place carton completely over to ears and on the table.
12. Have an adult glue corks onto bottom of carton with crazyglue, creating legs for piggybank to stand up on. Allow time to dry.

Part Five
13. Final touch: add on googly eyes or create eyes out of construction paper.
